RMP6EG6X–The captured German field guns are on exhibition along the side of the Mall under the trees from Admiralty Arch to Buckingham Palace. They were placed there on 5th November 1918 after being captured during the last days of WW1; they included field guns, howitzers, trench mortars and Machine guns. In total there were over 400 guns on display. On Wednesday 13th November crowds of revellers took several of the guns to Trafalgar Square and attempted to burn them on a bonfire which damaged the plinth of Nelson's column and the surrounding paving. 76 The Mall (13962686919)

Community fundraising of this kind was first tried in WW1 and during the Battle of the Britain, a Spitfire Fund was established to raise funds for the war effort. The cost of a Spitfire was set at a nominal £ 5,000 and individuals, businesses and communites were encouraged to contribute. The city of Birmingham had four Spitfires named after it.

'...view of the vessel beached at Boulogne, showing how the bows were blown clean off by the explosion'. On 24 March 1916, the passenger ferry SS 'Sussex' was torpedoed by a German U-boat in the Channel between Folkestone and Dieppe. The ship was severely damaged and many passengers were drowned - some sources say at least 50 were killed, with the figure 80-100 also suggested. RM2C9CREA–HMS Queen Elizabeth (launched Oct 16th 1913) . On this vessel the German fleet surrendered during WWI in November 1918. She was the lead ship of her class of dreadnought battleships built for the Royal Navy in the early 1910's and was rebuilt twice. (Pennant number: 00). She along with HMS Valiant, was seriously damaged by Italian frogmen Antonio Marceglia and Spartaco Schergat using , human torpedo mines on 19 December 1941 in Alexandria harbour, Egypt. Nine men died.The vessel was scrapped in Dalmuir Scotland in July 1948 after being bought by Arnott Young.

RMJR31DD–Zeppelin damage in Yarmouth. During WWI Great Yarmouth suffered the first aerial bombardment in the UK, by Zeppelin L3 on January 19, 1915. Bombing missions, especially those targeting London, captured the German public's imagination, but had little significant material success, although the Zeppelin raids, together with the later bombing raids carried out by aeroplanes, did cause the diversion of men and equipment from the Western Front and fear of the raids had some effect on industrial production.
