Slovenia. WWI, the Solkan bridge has got the widest stone-arch that was ever built on a river. Its stone-arch is also the widest one among the railway-bridges arches in the world. The Austrians had it planned by Rudolf Jaussner and built in less than two years. The works began in the spring of 1904 and ended in winter 1905. During the First World War, the bridge was mined by the Austrian army in retreat and was seriously damaged. When the war was over, the Italian government restored it completely, restoring the stone-arch. The repairs were completed in 1927.
