Vintage portrait photo of Harriet Tubman (c1820 – 1913). Born into slavery, Tubman (birth name Araminta Ross) escaped and later guided other slaves to freedom via the Underground Railroad before working as a nurse, spy and scout for the Union Army during the American Civil War.
