RM2B012NM–China: A group from an unidentified ethnic tribe in southern Yunnan province pose for a French photographer. Engraving by Louis Delaporte (1842-1925), c. 1860s. Although described as Mons or Peguans by a French delegation in 1866-68, this attribution was almost certainly due to the similarities the colonists encountered in the peoples' costumes and features. In fact, the people in this drawing are most likely ethnic Yi (aka Lolo) or Pa-Y, as these tribes are most prominent in the region traversed by the French delegation.

Ukiyo-e, literally 'pictures of the floating world', are a genre of Japanese woodblock prints (or woodcuts) and paintings produced between the 17th and the 20th centuries, featuring motifs of landscapes, tales from history, the theatre, and pleasure quarters. It is the main artistic genre of woodblock printing in Japan. Usually the word ukiyo is literally translated as 'floating world' in English, referring to a conception of an evanescent world and impermanent, fleeting beauty.

RF2C8MBBK–This painting titled The First Step is by Jean-Francois Millet (1814-1875). Here, in a fenced-in garden behind a house, parents encourage their child to walk for the first time. Delicate passages of blue, green, yellow, and red enliven the composition. In the 1860s Jean-François Millet began to add pastel to his black chalk drawings of peasants and rural life, with the hope that the addition of color would make his monochromatic drawings more marketable. Millet was a french painter and belonged to the realism Movement.
