The first race meeting of modern hydroplane to take place near London was held on to Ruislip reservoir. The meeting was organised by the British Hydroplane Racing Club in cooperation was this group of men connected with the Royal Motor Yacht club (of which the King is Admiral). Photo shows: Ababa, piloted by Mr Alan Bristow, making the turn at speed to beat Betty III, piloted by Lieutenant E Verdon Roe, in the First Ruislip 4 L handicap. 1 July 1939
