He made the first transpacific flight from the United States to Australia in 1928 and other notable flights. In partnership with Charles Ulm, Kingsford Smith established Australian National Airways in 1929. Sydney airport was named in his honour. A number of aircraft also carry his name and he is classed as an Australian national hero.
