RM2M9A3MX–Donald Bellew won his VC near here. Born in Bombay in 1882 he was educated at Blundells and Sandhurst and enlisted in the British Columbia Regiment when war broke out. With his sergeant he held a position with two machine guns but, when the sergeant was killed and he ran out of ammunition, he was taken prisoner - but not before he had smashed the guns. He remained a prisoner until 1919 and died on 1 February 1961. His VC, which was in the Royal Canadian Military Institute, was stolen in the 1970s.

RM2TA3PX6–During Operation HASTENGS in 1966, a captured Viet Cong was provided water by Staff Sergeant Tong and Corporal Peter J. Buzzanell. SSgt. Tong, an interpreter with the 2nd Battalion, 4th Marines, interrogated the prisoner and learned that nearby Viet Cong units possessed weapons including 60mm mortars and 50 caliber mobile guns. As the questioning took place, the group was fired upon by these exact weapons. This photograph was taken by LCpl. Finnell and is part of the Defense Department's records.
