RM2B01BG8–France/Vietnam: Marie Joseph François (Francis) Garnier (25 July 1839 - 21 December 1873), French imperialist and explorer. Portrait, c. 1860s. Francis Garnier was a French officer and explorer known for his exploration of the Mekong River in Southeast Asia. In 1873 Garnier was sent to Tonkin by Admiral Dupré, the governor of Cochinchina, to resolve a dispute between the Vietnamese authorities and the French entrepreneur Jean Dupuis. Persuaded that the time was ripe for a French conquest of Tonkin, Garnier captured Hanoi, the capital of Tonkin, with a mere 180 men.

RM2B00YT0–Vietnam: General The (Trinh Minh The, 1922-1955), nationalist, warlord and military leader during the latter stages of the First Indochina War. The was born in Tay Ninh Province and raised in the Cao Dai religion. He was trained in military officer school by the Japanese Kempeitai when Japan began using Cao Dai paramilitary troops. By 1945 he was an officer in the Cao Dai militia. In June 1951, The broke from the Cao Dai hierarchy and took about two thousand troops with him to form his own militia, the Lien Minh, devoted to combating both the French and the Viet Minh.

RM2B01B2N–Thailand: General Kriangsak Chomanan (17 December 1917 - 23 December 2003), 15th Prime Minister of Thailand (r. 1977-1980), c. 1960s. Kriangsak Chomanan served as Prime Minister from 1977 to 1980. A professional soldier, Kriangsak fought against the communists in both the Korean War and the Vietnam War. In 1977, as the Supreme Commander of the army, he staged a successful coup against Prime Minister Tanin Kraivixien. Kriangsak is widely credited for defusing a long-running Communist insurgency in northern Thailand. His refoulement of Cambodian refugees led to over 3,000 recorded deaths.
