His courtly manners and sensible judgement helped him to advance until he became the leading obstetric consultant of London. His greatest work was Anatomia uteri umani gravidi (The Anatomy of the Gravid Uterus Exhibited in Figures), with plates engraved by Rymsdyk, and published by the Baskerville Press in 1774.

Such figures were seen as lucky charms. 'Nannie' comes from Tam O' Shanter, a poem by scottish writer Robert Burns. Built in 1869 in Dumbarton, Scotland, to carry tea back from China, Cutty Sark became fame for its record-breaking passages to nearly every port in the world. It is the only surviving tea clipper.
