Undated portrait print of Queen Elizabeth I of England consenting to the death of Marie Stuart (Mary I Queen of Scots). Elizabeth (1533 - 1603) was the fifth and last monarch (1558 - 1603) of the Tudor dynasty. Elizabeth, a Protestant, imprisoned her Catholic cousin Mary in 1568 and eventually had her executed for treason in 1587. Engraving by J R Rice, based on a painting by Julius Schroder.
