RME10WWG–May 05, 1974 - Stolen paintings recovered: The 19 paintings, valued at more than £8 million, which were stolen from the Eire home of millionaire Sir Alfred Beith ten days ago, have been recovered. Wallace, immortalised in the Oscar-winning epic Braveheart, led the Scots in their battle to free themselves from English rule in the 13th century. The portrait by Scottish artist George Jameson was being auctioned at Sotheby's sale of Scottish paintings.
