Built on the site of St. Clement Dane's rectory by William Cecil, Lord Burleigh, in 1600, it was originally called Exeter House. Nash, the architect, planned to replace it by a similar bazaar, but instead the Lower Arcade between Adelaide Street and the Strand was constructed. Coutts Bank now stands approximately on the site depicted here. Date: 1951
