RMKGM544–Sueno's Stone is a Picto-Scottish standing stone carved from Old Red Sandstone but has suffered considerable weathering in places. The east face has four panels that show a large battle scene, but the top panel is quite weathered and shows rows of horsemen. There is general agreement that the stone dates to between the 9th and 10th centuries and it's the largest surviving Pictish stone of its type in Scotland. Forres, Moray, Scotland.

The legend claims that St. James, the Apostle of Jesus, who died 800 years prior to the supposed event, appeared on a white horse and spurred the flagging Christian army to victory. St. James, the patron saint of Spain, is known in Spanish as Santiago Matamoros, or St. James the Moor-killer. After a 15th century engraving, possibly by Martin Schongauer.

RMF1M0HJ–King Alfred (849–899AD) aka Alfred the Great, king of the West Saxons from 871-886 and king of the Anglo-Saxons from 886-99 was considered to be the first King of England. After ascending the throne, Alfred spent several years fighting Viking invasions winning a decisive victory in the Battle of Edington in 878 and made an agreement with the Vikings, creating what was known as the Danelaw in the North of England. Alfred also oversaw the conversion of Viking leader Guthrum to Christianity. He defended his kingdom against the Viking attempt at conquest, becoming the dominant ruler in England.

RF2E943RB–Alfred the Great (848/9 – 26 October 899) was king of the West Saxons from 871 to c. 886 and king of the Anglo-Saxons from c. 886 to 899. After ascending the throne, Alfred spent several years fighting Viking invasions. He won a decisive victory in the Battle of Edington in 878 and made an agreement with the Vikings, creating what was known as the Danelaw in the North of England. Alfred also oversaw the conversion of Viking leader Guthrum to Christianity. Troops of the 9th Infantry Brigade co-operated with ships of the Home Fleet in a combined landing exercise on the Devon coast. Under cover of fire from warships, the troops landed, consolidated their position and brought ashore equipment. A battle is planned before the troops are forced to re-embark. Some 200 warriors, both men and women, participate in the dramatic and true to life battle which is fought with contemporary weapon and is based on the Nordic 9th century Regnar Lodborg viking saga. Ribe Viking Centre is an experience centre situated near the historical Viking town, Ribe, on the southern part of the Danish mainland.
