Although upon such playthings, still the partTo be performd will be no less an art.And should some small affrighted trumpet shriek, Or bashful whistle loose its voice and squeak, Or some presumptuous little would-be drumShould be puffed up, and then collapsed and dumb, Dont let such little things excite your wonder; You know, dear friends, great artists sometimesblunder. 1 Cuckoo, quail, and iiiglit-owl are names of German toyinstruments.. A TOPSYTURVY CONCERT BY GEORGE BRADFORD BARTLETT THIS is one of the funniest entertainments ever seen, and one of the easiest to prepare. It needs only a screen or a curtain stretched acrossany room. The height of the curtain may be determined bythe size of the children who sing in the concert, forthey stand in a row behind the screen or curtain. •/ It is well to have these singers nearly of the samesize, as the screen or curtain should conceal all oftheir bodies except the head and neck. The only preparation required is that the arms andhands of each should be covered with stockings, andthat shoes be worn upon each hand, with the soles ofthe shoes pointed forward, so that the toes will beturned toward the spectators, who are seated in frontof the curtain at a little distance. At the conclusionof each verse the singers stoop dowrn all together andvery quickly, and each, lowering the head, elevatesthe arms above the curtain. 200 A TOPSYTURVY
