Snipsøyrdalen seen from Bigset. Behind the ridge above the lake, there is a fjord of about 2500 meters width separating the island of Hareidlandet from the mainland. The mountain tops on the mainland are all over 1000 m a.s.l. with dramatic alpine features. The lake in the background is about 12 km long by 1 km wide. It gives lots of sport fishing after trout. The homesteads are few and scattered. The foreground lake is shallow (2 meters) and attracts dozens of swans , staying over the winter, and the area around it is home to numerous birds of many species
