Johannes Roth, his father, was a cottonbroker in New York, wholater conducted his businessin Bremen, Germany, whereRoth received his schoolingand later was apprenticedm his fathers oflBce. Aftermany years of misdirectedefforts, he was permitted to follow his talents call and started his studiesin 1893 at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. Upon its termina-tion in 1S96 he entered the Academy of Fme Arts in Berlin for a numberof years and traveled in pjurope until he came to New York where he openeda studio.. W.
