Lieutenant General Seiji Kazuki, commander in chief of Japan's north China garrison, consulting a map outside his headquarters, from where he is conducting operations against the Chinese. The fierce fighting which took place there between Chinese and Japanese troops. After Southern resistance by the Chinese took possession of the city when they carried out mopping up operations in the streets. Fighting is still going on in the south of the country. 23 August 1937
