King Henry VIII (1491-1547), c1519. Henry VIII in a cloth-of-gold jacket over a red velvet doublet. This is the earliest recorded portrait type of Henry VIII and predates the famous Holbein pattern by nearly twenty years. It was most likely painted when Henry VIII was twenty-eight years old.
