Oceidentalis—A tree of the largest size, growing rapidly, very ornamental and entirely hardy. Fine for street planting. POPULUS.—Poplar. P. Fastigiata {Lombardy)—r£his grows to an immense height, and is remarkable for its columnar growth. P. Bolleana (Poplar) New—Pyramidal form, leaves dark green on upper side, bril- liant silver beneath. Very beautiful.. Carolina Poplar. P. Monolifera ( Carolina) — A vigorous, healthy, native tree of rapid growth, pyram- idal in form, with large, glossy leaves; valu- able for park or street planting. P. Aurea — The golden yellow foli- age, retaining its brilliancy throughout the season. PRUNUS.—Plum. P. Pizzardi (Purple-leaved)—A very re- markable and beautiful tree with black bark and dark, purple leaves, remaining so until late in the fall. P. Triloba (Double-/lowering)—A beauti- ful small tree or shrub of fine habit, with elegant, double, rosy flowers, set very closely on the slender branches. PTELIA.—Hop Tree. Very choice lawn tree of small size, with handsome deep green, glossy trifoliate leaves, which, if bruised, exhale a pleasant, hop- like odor. This odor is especially notice- able in the seeds, which are borne in dense, showy clusters in late summer. They are of easiest culture in any soil.
