It shows three soldiers playing cards around a crate of rations as a shell hurtles into the trench. A fourth soldier is about to drop an ammunition box. Barbed wire and gun emplacements can be seen in the background, as well as a sign saying 'To the Strand Palace Hotel'. The cartoon is on the front of a postcard sent from France in 1918
