Captain of British foodship and his daughter feted after running Bilbao blockade. Captain W. H. Roberts of Penarth, who ran his British foodship Seven Seas Spray through the insurgent blockade of Bilbao was guest of honour at a special luncheon given in Durango, near Bilbao by Don R. M. Aldasoro, the Councillor of Commerce and Supplies. Also at the luncheon was the skipper's 20-year-old daughter Miss Fifi Roberts. She described the blockade as all my eye and Betty Martin [phrase meaning nonsense]. It is as easy as rolling off a log. Photo shows: Captain W. H. Roberts and her daughter, Miss Fif

The British steamer Seven Seas Spray, with Captain Roberts, his 24-year-old daughter Fifi, and crew of 28 on board, has been detained since the end of August at Santonia, a Nationalist port on the north coast of Spain between Bilbao and Santander. Mr Thomas B. McEwan of Edinburgh, part owner of the Seven Seas Spray, is reported to have been informed that captain, Fifi Roberts and officers were locked in the officers quarters and chart room of the ship, while the crew were shut up in the holds. The ship is said to have been captured by Italians, not Spanish Nationalists. 11 October 1937 ]
