Washington arrived at Cambridge, Mass., July 7th, and his headquarters remained there until after theevacuation of Boston by the royal forces March 17, 1776. He atfirst lost several battles on account of the rawness and insufficiencyof the troops under his command, and the superior training andequipment of the British forces under Sir William Howe and GeneralClinton.
