They hadheard of the voyages of Hudson, who had got the name of thebold Englishman. The DutchCompany was afraid that theEnglish, with Hudsons help, might find a nearer way bythe north, and so get thetrade away from them. Sothey sent for the bold Eng-lishman, and hired him to findthis new route for them. Hudson left Amsterdam in1609 in a yacht called The HalfMoon.
