Women's fashion from 1786 to 1841, reigns of George III to Victoria, from Pocket Books, Ladies' Magazines, etc. Handcolored engraving from "Civil Costume of England from the Conquest to the Present Period" drawn by Charles Martin and etched by Leopold Martin, London, Henry Bohn, 1842. The costumes were drawn from tapestries, monumental effigies, illuminated manuscripts and portraits. Charles and Leopold Martin were the sons of the romantic artist and mezzotint engraver John Martin (1789-1854).
