RM2C6JXN4–An old engraving showing 'The Tabard' (or 'The Talbot') during the middle ages. This historic inn stood on the east side of Borough High Street, Southwark, London, England, UK. It was established in 1307 and stood on the route south from London Bridge to Canterbury and Dover. The Tabard was famous for accommodating people who made the pilgrimage to the Shrine of Thomas Becket in Canterbury Cathedral, and Geoffrey Chaucer mentions it in his 'The Canterbury Tales'. In these times, The Tabard would have been filled with a mixture of pilgrims, drunks, travellers, criminals and prostitutes.
