Canyon de Chelly National Monument is a deeply meaningful and significant cultural site for the Navajo people, who have lived in the canyon for centuries. The Navajo people call the canyon "Tseyi", meaning "inside the rock", and believe it to be a sacred place imbued with spiritual power. The canyon is home to numerous ancient ruins, rock art, and petroglyphs, which are evidence of the Navajo and Ancestral Puebloan cultures that have inhabited the area for thousands of years. The Navajo people have a deep connection to the land, and still practice traditional ceremonies and ceremonies in the canyon, preserving their cultural heritage and passing it on to future generations.
