More information:

View SW of the chevaux-de-frise (a defensive setting of upright stones) outside the main stone rampart (6m/20ft thick) & a walled enclosure on the E side of Cademuir II Iron Age hillfort, Scottish Borders, UK. The jagged stones are hidden in a gulley out of sight from attackers approaching from the NE. Over 100 stones survive running back for 80m (262ft) from the steep S face of the ridge. The fort was in use from the later 1st millennium BC into the 1st century AD. The larger Cademuir I hillfort lies uphill to the NE (to L & rear of camera position) on the summit of Cademuir Hill. To the rear of this view is a glimpse of the beautiful valley of the Manor Water.
