This image is exclusive to Alamy. The permission from government to rebuild Knifesmithgate and other nearby streets in the area was granted in 1914 but the outbreak of the First World War delayed the work. The new buildings seen here were built in the Tudor Revival style, sometimes known as Mock Tudor. The Tudor Revival style began in the latter half of the 19th century with influences from the Arts and Crafts movement from the 1880s onwards.
