Built in 1638 by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal, the founder of Bhutan, Punakha Dzong is the second oldest dzong in the Kingdom of Bhutan. It served as the administrative center and seat of the government of Bhutan until 1955 when the capital was moved to Thimphu.
