Cw 8645 Barrowford lock 47 and nb Sunrise 29.3.2024 Barrowford reservoir looks fairly full of water the narrow boat “Sunrise” raises up through lock 47 of the Leeds and Liverpool canal in the spring sunshine on Good Friday the 29.3.2024. This flight of seven locks lift the canal up to the summit level of the canal by 69 feet and 3 inches.s The reservoir was drained in September 2021 for bank stabilization work which went on longer than the planned 48 weeks but is now refilling as the last of the work to form a new path around the top of the bank is nearly complete. As the job has taken longer than anticipated it led to restrictions on the use of the locks and at times complete closure to navigation on the Leeds and Liverpool canal in the last couple of years. Hopefully now the reservoir will be feeding into the canal there will not be as much of a problem this year. The CRT reservoir watch report for February 2024 indicates that the seven reservoir’s, Rishton, Barrowford, Upper and Lower Foulridge, Slipper Hill, Whitemoor and Winterburn that supply the Leeds and Liverpool where at 79.2% capacity compared to the Lancaster canal which is at 100%.
