The old well is still inexistence, although unused, and may be seen in the yardback of the hotel. Captain, and, later, Major Jacob Orndt, the commanderof Forts Allen and Norris, was a good officer and bravesoldier. We are fortunate in having secured from mem-bers of the family some data with regard to him, whichwe deem worthy of reproduction in the following chapter, as further evidence of the work done by loyal Pennsylvania-Germans for their country..
