The old State House in Boston was built in 1713. It was the seat of the Massachusetts State Legislature until 1798. Crowds gathered below its balcony on July 18, 1776 to hear a reading of the Declaration of Independence. It is the oldest surviving public building in Boston. It is now a museum.
