The 1890 caption reads: " Dance of the Ravira Tribe at Kavalli." It is from H M Stanley’s book, In Darkest Africa. Sir Henry Morton Stanley (1841-1904) was a British explorer and journalist. In 1871, the New York Herald sent him to Africa to find David Livingstone. On the expedition of 1879-1884, he obtained territorial concessions that led to Belgian acquisition of Congo Free State.
