More information:

The orange sub is a portion of the deep water research nuclear Submarine NR-1 in service for 39 years from 1965-2008. It has been used for all kinds of research and deep water search missions around the world. The Submarine Force Museum is the home of the historic nuclear sub, the USS Nautilus. The USS Nautilus, the first nuclear submarine built for the United States Navy at Electric Boat Shipyard from 1952-1954, also in Groton, CT, is now retired and docked in the water. You can tour the sub and see what it is really like both inside and out. The museum has additional submarines, both from the US and elsewhere, on the property inside and out dating back to the early days of submersibles. It is geared toward a wide audience, children, adults, military history buffs.
