Strip of bobbin lace with hot air balloon, Strip of natural-colored bobbin lace: Antwerp side. On the short cut strip you can see a hot air balloon, which is originally part of a larger pattern that has been cut off. The balloon is made in a lattice soil, a Valenciennes soil. The motifs are made in linen with openwork edges and thicker, shiny contour threads. Standing pairs and single lace-hole strokes between the closed stripes in the balloon create a decorative effect in the open-worked stripes.
