Stone carving of the Hindu goddess Durga Killing the Buffalo Demon. The demon was a shape-shifter. He first appeared as a buffalo and was beheaded by Durga. When the demon assumed human form, the goddess killed him again, this time using a trident. According to Hindu mythology, the goddess Durga was the only one capable of stopping the demon. In her eight arms she bears the weapons and symbols of the deities whose combined power she represents.
