South London Flower Show 1842 held at the Surrey Zoological Gardens - Now Pasley Park housing estate site (from an English publication of the time). Royal Surrey Gardens was a pleasure gardens containing at separate times, a music hall and a zoo. It was in the grounds of Surrey Manor House (Manor Place, close to Pasley Park). The Surrey Zoological Gardens were opened in 1831 by Edward Cross who already had a menagerie on the Strand. It also hosted flower shows & special fete days with historical re-enactments, including the Great Fire of London and the eruption of Mount Vesuvius.
