Some 40 demonstrators were arrested yesterday when they staged a raid on the Government centre for research into micro-biological warfare at Porton. More than 1,000 troops and hundreds of police were called in to guard the top secret centre. Cumberlamd, British cruiser fitted with the wash-down system for atomic warfare. Two U.S. Navy representatives watched the tests which a British Admiralty spokesman said subjected the crew to ''less radiation than that froma luminous watch.'' Photo shows H.M.S. Cumberland sprays herself clean of the atomic liquid in the Mediterranean. The crew remained under cover during the tests.

Seals are counter guerilla experts, highly trained in unconventional warfare and Para military operations. This operation resulted in five enemy guerillas killed, and 153 camouflaged structures and fortifications 120 Sampans and 75 destroyed.
