This year, the KfW Development Bank will take over the financing of the Kahuzi-Biega National Park on the border of the Democratic Republic of Congo to Rwanda. In this park on the Congolese side are currently nine mountain gorilla groups present, which currently means a total of 139 animals. These groups live on approximately 600,000 hectares of forest area - which makes only 1/10 of the Total National Park, that is currently controlled. Before the last outbreak of war with Rwanda there was about 10,000 living Mountain Gorillas.
