RM2KB0X61–The exterior of the restored St Patrick's Cathedral in Dublin Ireland. In 1805, the north transept was in ruins and the south transept was in a poor condition. Major reconstruction, paid for by Benjamin Guinness, in 1860–65, was inspired by the fear that the cathedral was in imminent danger of collapse, so much of the current building and decoration dates from the Victorian era and few records of the work survive today. A failure to preserve records means that little is known as to how much of the current building is genuinely mediæval and how much is Victorian pastiche.

RM2CERD0T–An old 1800s engraving of a steam-driven, rotary, cylinder printing press that was used in the industrial revolution of the Victorian era. Germans Friedrich Koenig and Andreas Bauer designed and built their first cylinder press in the early 1800s. It was much faster than the existing flatbed presses. One of their first customers was John Walter of The Times newspaper. The first issue of The Times that used the new presses was published in 1814. The press was installed in secret to avoid sabotage by disgruntled press workers (luddites) who operated the existing presses.

Seven streets converge at circular junction, at the centre of which is a column bearing six sundials. Thomas Neale designed its plan in the 1690s. He hoped that Seven Dials would be popular with wealthy residents but the area gradually deteriorated. In the 1800s Seven Dials was among the worst slums in London. However, today buildings have been restored and Seven Dials is a prosperous district.

The city is known for its famous historical landmarks such as York Minster (here in the background) and the city walls. In the Middle Ages, York grew as a major wool trading centre. In the 18th and 19th centuries, there was considerable commercial traffic on the river, mainly from downstream Selby. The Ouse Bridge was the main river crossing. Several versions were built. The bridge here is the New Ouse Bridge, designed by Peter Atkinson the younger, completed in 1821.
