Pioneer racing motorist recalls old records at opening of new Brooklands course. Dame Ethel Locke-King, wife of the founder of Brooklands opened a new road racing course at Brooklands, Surrey. Snow havoc in Southern England. Telegraph poles blown over. The worst havoc of the great snowstorm which raged over Southern England was caused in the Lyndhurst district of the New Forest, where telephone wires were torn down as trees fell, cutting off communications in all directions. The chimps washing though!. Peter hangs out the clothes. When Peter and Jackie, the London zoo chimpanzees, heard that their keeper was about to go on holiday, they apparently decided to do his washing for him, and may be cut down his laundry bill. Anyway, a washed-up and scrubbing board were ready to hand, together with plenty of 'material'in the form of socks and shirts, and the monkey house, laundry was soon in full operation!. Deepcut No 1 west of Wilhelmina Pass, Weber Canyon showing method of excavation. The narrows began about 4 miles west of Echo, Utah, and 995 miles west of Omaha. This was some of the most difficult grading in the building of UP. Successive shelves were hacked into the rock, then pick axed and blasted down to grade. Rough temporary tracks were laid to haul rubble away. On the higher levels two wheeled mule carts and wheelbarrows did the job.. The plants are arranged in concentric rings around the radioactive Cobalt 60 source which is in the pipe extending into the floor. The source with an activity of 7.5 Curies can be raised or lowered by remote control. While the source is up, the plants receive a continuous dosage of gamma radiation which varies in intensity depending on the distance from the source. When the source is down in its protective shield below the concrete floor the greenhouse can be safely entered for making Stock Photohttps://www.alamy.com/image-license-details/?v=1https://www.alamy.com/upton-long-island-new-york-plants-growing-in-the-gamma-greenhouse-at-brookhaven-national-laboratory-the-plants-are-arranged-in-concentric-rings-around-the-radioactive-cobalt-60-source-which-is-in-the-pipe-extending-into-the-floor-the-source-with-an-activity-of-75-curies-can-be-raised-or-lowered-by-remote-control-while-the-source-is-up-the-plants-receive-a-continuous-dosage-of-gamma-radiation-which-varies-in-intensity-depending-on-the-distance-from-the-source-when-the-source-is-down-in-its-protective-shield-below-the-concrete-floor-the-greenhouse-can-be-safely-entered-for-making-image268832871.html
