It happened yesterday to these two Jamaican girls, Lorraine, left, and Marjorie. Princess Anne sat between them when she was invited to tea during her visit to Dr. Barnardo's Village Home at Barkingside, Essex. The Princess went to the home for orphaned children after opening the Redbridge Technical College nearby.

The soldiers are wearing First World War period British Army issue Hospital Blue jackets (two are under their overcoats). Such items of uniform were worn by wounded servicemen whilst recovering as convalescents in the UK.
