21 NASA Astronauts have just spend a week in Iceland, making a study of the Geology of the Island, which is the nearest one can get to moonscape conditions on Earth, Sunday 9th July 1967. Two of these twenty-one are likely to be the first earthmen to walk on the surface of the moon, which will climax America's 7000 million Apollo programme. Our picture shows ... The coracle owing to its maneuverability has served several purposes in course of time. At one time they were used for punishment of criminals. History records that wrongdoers whose crime deserved death were put to sea in “boat of one hide” & driven from land. less sinister use to which they are still put is sheep dipping. On 18th March 1967 the oil tanker Torrey Canyon on route for Milford Haven ran aground on Pollard Rock on the Seven Stones Reef, near Lands End, Cornwall In the hours and days that followed, extensive attempts to float the vessel off the reef proved unsuccessful. After the attempts to move the vessel failed the ship began to break up spilling her entire cargo of approximately 119,000 tonnes of Kuwait crude oil from the stricken vessel's ruptured tanks over the next 10 days. For sixty years, old Tom Wilson has been listening to cockles singing on the sandbanks of Morecambe Bay , Lancs. 'Sing?' says Tom, 'Sometimes they're as noisy as the whistle of a train.' Twice a day for sixty years he has led his donkey and cart on the six-mile walk to the sands from the village of Flookburgh. With him he takes his jumbo - a wooden device like a couple of cricket wickets. When he rocks the jumbo to and fro the cockles are coaxed to the surface and Tom's son, Harold, gathers them in.
