The first GERM - ''Ground Effect Research Machine'' - under test at the Hamble Works of Folland Aircraft limited - a member of the Hawker Siddeley Group. The GERM is being used for a series of tests leading to the development of commercial hovercraft. Separate engines are used for lift and propulsion, the ducted propulsion fan being located immediately behind the cabin which houses the test crew of two.
