Alexander noted that ships of such construction were employed by Chinese merchants for transporting the produce and goods between different ports of the country. RMMAKMPD–Describes visiting with Alf Waud and the Jewell family. Transcription: fond of him [Alfred Waud], and would recline in his arms before her mother [Celina Jewell], Selina [Jewell], or myself, fondling him. But she would say and do little willful and defiant things, annoying her mother. Alf carries a dirk ? a blunt affair enough, but I suppose it might 'do for a man,' (as Mercutio says), and she (Mary [Brainard]) got hold of it and made lunges at her mother till Mrs Jewell was provoked and squalled. Then she ? the daughter ? said of [Albert] Brainard 'Served him Right.' She had spars, too, w

RMMNWW1W–English: 'Rocks in Heliesund' Norsk bokmål: «Heliesund klipperne» . No. V. ROCKS IN HELIESUND. This boldness of scenery is particularly characteristic, and presents one of the many striking features of Heliesund. The rocks are formed of grey granite inclining to purple, with a mixture of terra ponderosa, micaceous and other spars, and containing some nodules of ferruginous ore. These rocks are covered in distinct patches with a variety of mosses; and their general aspect conveys an idea of the tremendous effects of volcanic eruptions, or other convulsions of nature, in ages far remote. RMP05PAT–. English: A Dutch two-decker at anchor This is an offset from another drawing with the hull only rubbed on the back and the masts and spars added. An offset was a method used by the van de Veldes to transfer the outline of a ship’s hull from an existing drawing onto a new piece of paper. The new piece of paper was placed over the original drawing and rubbed on the back producing a faint drawing which could be worked up with graphite or pen and ink and any additional detail added. The ship has all her sails furled except the fore topgallant, which a man is furling. The drawing is unsigned. A
