RMF4K055–Christ Church on St. Simons Island, Georgia stands as a reminder of the early ministry of John and Charles Wesley in America. In 1736 the Westley brothers, priests in the Church of England, came to Georgia where John became minister to the parish in Savannah and Charles was appointed Secretary of Indian Affairs and Chaplain for Gen. James Oglethorpe. Charles launched his own ministry in the newly founded settlement of Frederica on St. Simons Island. Charles and John, as well as George Whitefield, preached on St. SImons. Christ Church was built in 1820 and rebuilt in 1884. (Photo c. 1938)
