The defeat of the Ottoman Empire at the Siege of Vienna in 1683 was a significant turning point in European history. The Ottoman Empire's attempt to conquer Vienna was thwarted by a coalition of Christian forces, led by King Jan III Sobieski of Poland. The defeat marked the end of the Ottoman Empire's expansion into Europe and the beginning of the decline of the empire. The battle also had far-reaching consequences for European politics, as it strengthened the power of the Habsburgs and marked the beginning of the Habsburg-Ottoman Wars Stock Photohttps://www.alamy.com/licenses-and-pricing/?v=1https://www.alamy.com/the-defeat-of-the-ottoman-empire-at-the-siege-of-vienna-in-1683-was-a-significant-turning-point-in-european-history-the-ottoman-empires-attempt-to-conquer-vienna-was-thwarted-by-a-coalition-of-christian-forces-led-by-king-jan-iii-sobieski-of-poland-the-defeat-marked-the-end-of-the-ottoman-empires-expansion-into-europe-and-the-beginning-of-the-decline-of-the-empire-the-battle-also-had-far-reaching-consequences-for-european-politics-as-it-strengthened-the-power-of-the-habsburgs-and-marked-the-beginning-of-the-habsburg-ottoman-wars-image557679109.html

Hungary/Netherlands: 'The Battle of Buda'. Oil on canvas painting by Frans Geffels (1625-1694), 17th century. The Battle of Buda (1686) was fought between the Holy League and Ottoman Turkey, as part of the follow-up campaign in Hungary after the Battle of Vienna. The Holy League took Buda after a long siege. After the unsuccessful second siege of Vienna by the Turks in 1683, which started the Great Turkish War, an imperial counteroffensive started for the re-conquest of Hungary, so that the Hungarian capital Buda could be freed from the Turks. Kara Mustafa Pasha was an Ottoman military commander and Grand Vizier who served during the reign of Sultan Mehmed IV. He is best known for his leadership during the unsuccessful Ottoman siege of Vienna in 1683, which marked the turning point in the Ottoman Empire's expansion into Europe. Despite having a large army, Kara Mustafa was unable to breach the walls of Vienna and was ultimately defeated by a combined force of Austrian, German, and Polish troops led by King Jan III Sobieski.
