The pilot, American Kim Harman, 35, leapt to safety then rolled about on the ground to smother his burning clothes. The accident happened at West Fleetham Farm, near the tiny hamlet of Fleetham near Seahouses, Northumberland. 25/07/1980

Angry fisherfolk in the harbour village of Seahouses, two miles away on the mainland call it senseless slaughter. They say the nearest salmon fishing waters are at Berwick - twenty miles to the north
