RF2J0KFDE–In this early 1900s illustration the Germanic chief Arminius is seen consulting a prophetess, Arminius (died 19 AD) was a Roman officer and later chieftain of the Germanic Cherusci tribe. He is best known for commanding an alliance of Germanic tribes at the Battle of the Teutoburg Forest in 9 AD (Augustus ruled the Roman empire at the time), in which three Roman legions under the command of general Publius Quinctilius Varus were destroyed.
