Iran/Mongolia: Ghazan Khan (r.1295-1304) with his wife Kokochin (Kokachin) at court, 13th century. Kokachin was a 13th century Mongol princess from the Yuan dynasty in China, belonging to the Mongol Bayaut tribe. In 1291, she was betrothed to the Ilkhanate khan Arghun by the Mongol Great Khan Kublai. This followed a request by Arghun to his grand-uncle Kublai to send him a relative of his dead wife, and Kublai chose the 17-year-old Kökötchin, entrusting Marco Polo to escort her as his last duty. Arghun died before she arrived in Persia in 1293 however, and so she married his son Ghazan. India / Iran: 'Shirin Receives a Ring from Khusraw'. Folio by Farrukh Chela, c. 1597-1598. Khosrow II (570 - 28 February 628), also spelt Chosroes II and commonly known as Khosrow Parviz ('Khosrow the Victorious'), was a Shahanshah (King of Kings) of the Sasanian Empire, considered to be the last great king of Persia before the Muslim conquest. His courtship of the Armenian/Roman princess Shirin was a popular subject in works of Persian literature such as Fedrowsi's 'Shahnameh' and Nizami Ganjavi's 'Khosrow and Shirin'.
